As I am not focussing only on one topic in my blog, I am not sure how to create such a hero post.
Travel photos and stories, music, poems, personal stories, health and wellness, sometimes opinions articles about public issues, musings about this and that...
Maybe it could be 4 different blogs - but who would have time for that?
I think youβll find that a lot of people on Substack havenβt narrowed down their βnicheβ to one thing. Elin listed her different interests as bullet points. Then you can also share your overall ethos on life and the stage of life youβre in. Remember you can always start and tweak it as you go along (as many times as you like!)
I recently did mine Mika, might still need some work.
But I did get a big bump in subscribers for me, I only had like 4 or 5 to now 34 in just a month. I always thought that my latest post should be pinned at the top, makes sense why a hero post should always be there. people need to know who we are before they want to start reading what we have to say.
Thatβs awesome about the jump in subscribers!! I really liked having the post about leaving my job there, because it was the catalyst for starting this Substackβ¦taking you on a journey into the unknown.
Hello lovely Mika! Thank you for my little shout out for directing you to Dina's. I love that it isn't just big names featured because I think it can be so relatable for newbies starting too. Great informative and actionable post. Glad to have digested this in full!
Of course! I love how you champion your community. It was your shout out that I believe put her work in front of so many, who resonated with what she had to share. By the way, as a graphic designer, I love love love her branding. The punch of coral/pink in her logo, page breaks, and accent colour was so goodπ Did you help her with that?
Ah thank you thatβs a very generous compliment from you. Actually Dina was a former graphic designer herself before she transitioned into nutrition work so itβs all her! But I wholeheartedly agree with you. I need to sort out my page breaks so bad!
I feel the same when I get a welcome email or see an about page. Itβs so great to see other examples and then pick and chose what we might want to add to ours.
Hey, thanks for your generosity and forthrightness in sharing these resources. It's a big deal, and this spirit is a big part of why I love this platform so much!
So helpful! Going to give this a try. Love all the examples to draw from. Our page is co-written between myself and my sister so I think weβll have a good time creating a hero post together!
All of this is pure gold. Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful examples. I'm still a baby substacker and I'm looking forward to playing around with a hero post and getting clearer on what my newsletter is about and also not about. Thank you!
It took a couple of days to get together and in the end I didnβt follow exactly what the other hero posts did. Donβt know if that will hurt the impact of it, but it felt right. π€·ββοΈ
Still working on my hero post. Since I like to talk about more than one thing, I've pinned my first post and included links to some recent posts. It's been less than a week, so hard to tell if I'm getting traction yet.
It might get traction after something from our work gets shared or we participate in a community where they encourage highlighting other writers. Thatβs my guessβ¦.
I had no idea about this concept of HERO POST! I have one on my artist website, but didnβt think to use this on my substack. Thanks again Mika for your clever topics !

Hi Andrea, I guest wrote this for another publication and it totally addresses this issue. Short version: it is YOU, your shared values that underpins everything whatever lense your work is https://annieridout.substack.com/p/theres-something-that-connects-all
I have been thinking of a hero post and your newsletter seals the deal. I need to make one! Thanks for the inspiration and examples, super helpful.
Same, thank you Mika. Super helpful tactical post
Youβre so welcome Sadia!

So true, the final destination is not clear as yet, but one thing is for sure, there is plenty of space for all of us.

Any time!! π€£π€£π₯°π₯° and reciprocated π
I'm excited! I just wrote my "hero post" and scheduled it to go out Friday morning.
Fingers crossed it gets some engagement!
Woohoo! If you pin it on your home page, then people can jump right to it when they visit your publication. π
Thanks for anticipating my question on how to make a hero post the hero on the page!
Youβre so welcome! π
