Kia ora from New Zealand! 👋
I'm Mika, a Japanese-New Zealander, navigating life with my Kiwi husband and our four big kids—fun fact, he speaks better Japanese than I do!
I took the scariest leap of my life when I left my job and followed my gut without a clear plan (a huge departure from my usual risk-averse tendencies).
musings by mika is all about navigating uncharted terrain and discovering life beyond the comfort zone. ✨
I won't pretend to have all the answers – heck, there are days when I wake up and still wonder “what do I want to be when I grow up?"!! You won’t see a universal, one-size-fits-all guide here. What I hope you find is genuine, heart-to-heart conversations that cut through the noise. I invite you to share your messy, uncertain bits, you had a safe place here. 💕
I'm excited to connect with:
✿ Multi-passionate individuals: Navigating their next chapter, exploring new passions, and overcoming overthinking to live a freer and more joyful life.
I also have a special place in my heart for newbies to Substack. As a fellow newbie, I eagerly set up my Substack with hopes and dreams, wrote my first post, then life happened, and I did nothing for months. I sat with 7 subscribers for 8 months! Then everything changed when I decided to experiment and play (and shrugged off perfectionism and analysis paralysis). In my post, “Substack Diaries: What to do if you’re not growing as fast as others”, I shared some of my struggles and gave hope and reassurance. It’s my ode to any new Substack writer. I hope anyone who gets discouraged reads it, so they know they aren’t alone.
I also have a free supportive weekly accountability chat - with my ADHD, I seem to have better follow-through when I tell people what I’m going to do! 😄
Now, let’s pretend we just bumped into each other
I would LOVE to get to know you better!
What stage of life are you in? Your interests? Your plans this year? Your unspoken hopes and dreams?
What led you to this space?
Let’s connect. I would love to hear more about you! (I would also love for people to find “their people” in the comments, so please introduce yourself so people can connect with you!”)
Look forward to meeting you in the comments!!
Hi Mika, what a wonderful introduction to your Substack and you 💖
I am currently on the waiting list for an ADHD assessment, and am really just beginning to piece together the jigsaw of my life. When I reflect on the struggles I've had, it makes absolute sense to me. I feel seen for the first time ever, but I also mourn for the life I might have had if this had been picked up in my teens.
I found my way to Substack via Beth Kemptons's Winter Writing Sanctuary. It's taking some getting used to, but I think I'm getting the hang of it bit by bit.
Lovely to connect with you. I look forward to reading more of your posts 🥰
Hi Mika!
This is such a fun and personal post. Thabks for reaching out to fellow newbies!
I'm living in Papua Indonesia these days, not too far away from you, compared to my US passport country.
I'm here on Substack sharing my journey through international living, motherhood and alot of the grief work that comes with it.
Based on the description of your writing and interest, I'm going to Love your work. Looking forward to reading more. :)
