Thanks for sharing your journey so far on here. I am struggling with making a post, finding the time and waiting for the “perfect” space in which to make it. Like you, so many ideas, it is tricky to narrow it down.
I can absolutely relate! Getting my first post up took a whole day! Then didn’t write again until 7 months later. I still struggle with wanting to change the name of my Substack or delete things I’ve written.
I used to think, “what content would I be happy for people that I know to stumble across”. I’m starting to slowly move away from being outward focused and turning inward.
What really helped me was embracing that NOW is the time to experiment, when I’m just starting out. We can always delete and tweak as we go along!
It also really really helped to collect ideas/inspiration along the way, write my morning pages and let the ideas percolate.
People want to hear your point of view Maurni.
I know it’s scary. I have a piece about my resignation from my job sitting in my drafts, ready to go. I’m getting up the courage to publish it - and be ok with tweaking it later if I want to.
All the best and thank you so much for being my very first commenter! ❤️❤️
I love how you have this post set up! Its so informative and functional. Seeing behind the scenes are sone of my favorite type of posts regardless of what the topic is (money, business, creative endeavors, life, etc) I hope you keep doing these.
Started Substack in Oct 2023, and would like to share my writing schedule and content planning.
I've got a Google Sheet for my topic ideas brain dump and live date. I write 1 post weekly (because I also write 1 post weekly on Medium about less personal stuff). I usually write in the afternoon after my day job, or during writing frenzy early weekend morning. My day job starts at 4.30am - 12.30pm so even in the weekends I wake up early, which allows me quieter mornings to write.
I really enjoyed reading your writing practice! Thank you so much for sharing. Your hours are very tough, but I'm sure you are used to them and have a great rhythm by now. I'm trying to write once a week and leave the house to find a different space to do it. I'll see how it goes over the Christmas/New Year holidays!
Thank you - these comments are what are useful, and the “why” of me being on here. Learning from like community and also teaching perhaps.
This comment “People want to hear your point of view Maurni.” has come at a very good time, thanks and all the best
Any time! Drop me a line if you get stuck or need a pep talk! Also, you inspired me to push publish my my post about leaving my job! ❤️
